The last homemade dog treat has a twist because it is a treat you can share with your dogs. For some people, even knowing a dog treat was homemade – out of perfectly good ingredients, still gives them paws. They just can’t eat dog food. But for others, sharing a treat with their best friend is super fun. Our last recipe is a homemade dog treat for both people and our favorite pet.
The Ingredients for Sharing a Homemade Dog Treat
- 1½ cups of self rising flour
- ¼ cup oatmeal
- ½ cup smooth peanut butter
- 1 heaping tablespoon honey
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons oil
The Directions for Sharing a Homemade Dog Treat
1. Combine the flour and oats in the mixer stand bowl. Give these two ingredients a few swipes with the beater on low. Now add the smooth peanut butter, egg, honey, vanilla, and oil to the flour and oat mixture.

2. Mix on a medium setting until there is a smooth dough in the bowl. Remove the dough and let sit on the counter for about 10 minutes.
3. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough until it is evenly a ¼ inch thick. At this time preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Now take your cookie cutter and make shaped treats for your doggie. Place these on an ungreased cookie pan.

4. Bake the treats for 20 minutes turning at the 10 minute mark. This recipe will make about 24 treats of course depending on your cookie cutter shape and size.
5. Remove from oven to cool. Then enjoy a peanut butter oatmeal treat with your dog.

The treats were enjoyed by all the dogs, but they are a little crunchy and dry for people. They are no peanut butter cookie. I ate one and it was OK – my husband said the same. But he was probably just trying to be nice…
