Crunchy Beefy Dog Treats

beefy-dog-treats

Our first dog treat was supposed to taste like a peanut butter cookie, and by the dog’s interest in smelling them I would say they succeed. This week’s treat is a crunchy, beefy dog treat that is a recommended recipe from the Humane Society for homemade dog treats. We will see how the volunteer dogs like this treat. The first recipe for the peanut butter treats took a little more time to prepare because it used only whole ingredients, but this recipes is super easy. It also takes ingredients that you already have in your pantry.

The Ingredients for Crunchy Beefy Dog Treats

    • 1/2 cup cornmeal

    • 2 cups whole wheat flour

    • 6 tbsp oil

  • 2/3 cup beef broth

The Directions for Beefy Dog Treats

1. Add the two dry ingredient to the mixer stand bowl and then combine on low for about 15 seconds.

2. Continue by adding the wet ingredients to the mixer stand bowl. Once these are added mix on medium for about a minute or until there is pretty much a dough ball sitting in your bowl.
3. Start preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Take the dough out and using a rolling pin spread it out until it is about ¼ inch thick. Use your cookie cutter to make the treats and set them on an ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat this with the remaining dough by making a new ball and spreading out a gain until it has all been used.
4. Bake treats for 40 minutes turning at 20. This makes the treats nice and crunchy like dogs like them. Let the treats cool and test. This recipe will make about 2 dozen treats (depending on your cookie cutter shape).

If you want to give out the treats as gifts to your friends’ dogs, you can buy little white lunch bags at your local hobby store. I also found an assortment of colorful tissue paper. To decorate, you can use stickers or stencils – the same supplies you would use for scrapbooking or card making. Here are some of the gift bags ready to be delivered.

Below are the pictures of the volunteer dogs testing out these treats. We reveal in our final post where these treats ranked on the favorite scale.

I am glad they liked them – They definitely have more flavor than the store bought ones – At least that is what the dogs say.
